Ali Tayeh, And bread remains a dream, 2025
In a time when bread has become a symbol of loss, a loaf of flour stained with blood has become a witness to a famine created just as wars are created.
The bag lying in the corner is no longer just a food supply, but has become a funeral monument, stained with red spots that mimic the blood of innocents, reminding us that the simplest necessities of life are now sold at the price of dignity and spirit.
When did bread become more valuable than dignity?
And when did the loaf, which was once a simple right, become a commodity with a price tag: ‘People 30/50/120’, as if it were a cold trade-off between human life and the missing loaf?
In Gaza, bread is not just food, but a suspended dream, hanging from a wall riddled with bullets, surrounded by deprivation and stamped with the seals of hunger.
And bread remains a dream... a dream heavier than blood, more precious than gold, and further away than stolen dignity.
When did bread become more precious than dignity? And when did living become a dream displayed in a museum?
