Majed Shala
A visual artist born and based in Gaza. He is a founding member of the Shababeek for Contemporary Art collective. Shala participated in the Summer Academy at Darat Al-Funun in Jordan (2000-2001), under the supervision of the late Syrian artist Marwan Qassab Bachi. He has held several solo exhibitions, including In the Presence of Nature at Shababeek Gallery (2016); Breathing Air at the Arab British Centre in collaboration with Arts Canteen, London (2011); A Bracelet from Gaza in Beirut (2004); and Gaza, the Nostalgia Place at the Village of Arts and Crafts (2003). He has also taken part in numerous local and international exhibitions, including the Biennale Revolution and Cohesion in Cairo (2011) and the Sense of the Spirit of China workshop (2017).
Shala’s artwork is deeply emotive, often depicting female figures to embody themes of pain, hope, yearning, and resilience.
