Hazem Al-Zomar, Dead air / Live Broadcast, 2025
In the lives of displaced people in Gaza, comfort is transformed from a natural right into a stolen luxury, and humanitarian aid from a symbol of solidarity into a mirror reflecting the world's weakness. The image there is not just a photograph, but an open wound broadcast live, screaming in the pain of loss, while the outside world chooses silence, as if sound and image together have lost the ability to awaken the conscience. The tragedy of displacement is not only in the tents that lack warmth, nor in the queues in front of relief trucks, but in that cold distance between suffering that is displayed incessantly and a world that has become accustomed to watching until its feelings have become numb.
These are three specific cases that I and most of those who lived through the genocide in the Gaza Strip have experienced. Some have been robbed of sleep and rest, replaced by fatigue, hardship, and exhausting thoughts, and the pain of loss that we used to hear about and now see with our own eyes and that the whole world has seen through live broadcasts. But humanity has become numb, and Gaza has become a graveyard where bodies, voices, and truth have been executed, and even the feelings of every Arab have been executed.
