Jihad Jarbou, Lingering Letters, 2025
The work raises questions about where words go when we die. They are letters between me and my father and brother, who were martyred in the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, a war that robbed us of the meaning of life. The work is presented in the form of photographs and videos.
Where Do Bodies Go?
We walk through the city, carrying on our shoulders a pile of rubble, amidst memories and loss.
With every attempt to write letters that haven't yet arrived,
Letters remain unread, letters my father hasn't yet been able to read.
My brother, the city he dreamed of visiting, hasn't arrived yet.
Death steals everything.
The letters carry several questions:
Where do voices go?
Is death a character?
What is the meaning of the earth without people?
What is the relationship between outside and inside?
Where am I?
What is the concept of earth?
What is the relationship between the body and the earth?
What is the color of the city?
Is ash the color of our bodies?
