Muhannad Al-Sayes, The 'Summer of Arts and Joy' initiative, 2025

A collection of artworks inspired by children's imaginations and daily experiences, in which they expressed their feelings and dreams through simple colours and materials. The children created their works using food cans, stones, war debris, paper and old clothes, turning discarded objects into stories full of hope and wonder. These works show how children see the world around them despite harsh circumstances, and how art can be a safe space where they can create a beautiful world full of life and joy.

This stems from my belief that children's imaginations reflect their ability to transform what remains of war into beauty and new meaning. In my work, I have used recycled materials to express the idea of rising from the rubble and creating joy despite the pain, using colours that are free and simple, resembling children's toys, in an attempt to see the world through their eyes, which are full of purity.

This project was created as part of Sahab Urgent Grant Program.
