Sohail Salem, Painting and Story - Gaza City, 2025
This is an expression of the humanitarian situation we live in Gaza on a daily basis, and the details of life, through writing a text about each painting that is drawn. It is an art collection created during the war in Gaza, such as scenes of women sewing clothes, cooking, and tidying their homes with their families and children, and men repairing what they can of their tents or what remains of their homes, providing water and food, and watching over children playing on top of the rubble of houses and among the ruins in scenes that suggest their innocence remains undiminished despite the fear they live in.
Everyone is trying to restore what remains of their lives, as if it were a torn painting in need of a professional to repair the city's wounds, despite the grey and red colours that dominate the scene.
This series of work was created for the Sahab Urgent Grant Program 2025.
