Suad Abu Odeh, In Our Hands, the Sand Shines, 2025

In the midst of displacement tents, and among small faces exhausted by pain, the workshop began with a group of young people over the course of four meetings, in search of hope crafted with our own hands. We began by collecting Gaza's sand from the sea—a sand that has witnessed so much. We then colored it together and placed it in transparent bottles, as if hiding our small hopes. Finally, we poured the wax and lit the wick. Each lit candlestick held a story, and each tiny flame told a story of pain transformed into light. The workshop provided a space for expression and breathing amidst difficult circumstances. Each child made their own beloved candle.
